"The NYS Statewide Language RBE-RN is funded by the New York State Education Department Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages to provide support for the education of limited English proficient/English language learners (LEP/ELLs), educators, parents, and students of languages other than English. Districts and schools statewide are offered technical assistance, professional development and resource materials, including information that strengthens the teaching and learning of students of English as a new language, and students of languages other than English".

RBERN in the effort to support our immigrant communities has established partnerships with libraries in the city of New York.


This presentation will be offered in ENGLISH, SPANISH, HAITIAN, CHINESE, AND RUSSIAN. It is a virtual workshop!

DESCRIPTION This workshop will provide information to parents of ELL High School Juniors on the FAFSA and college application process, along with a financial aid overview. We will also address the role that ELL parents take in assisting, guiding, and supporting their child/children throughout the college application process.

AUDIENCE Parents and families of English Language Learners (ELLs) / HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS

TOPICS TO BE ADDRESSED Helping my child navigate the college application process from Summer 2021 through February 2022

  • A brief overview of the high school graduation requirements focused on credit accumulation and NYS examinations

  • How to read an official high school transcript

  • Parent’s role in assisting their child with the college application process

  • Timeframe of tasks the parent and child must complete from the

  • Summer of 2021 through February 2022

  • Information on student eligibility for financial aid
